The CERT organization (Community Emergency Response Team) is an all volunteer team that is equipped and trained to respond to the needs of community and it's citizens during a disaster. CERT is open to public and completely FREE to join. While CERT is available in communities nationwide, in Milton Township / DuPage County, every team member participates in a 7 week basic training course to learn the basics of fire suppression, search and rescue, first aid, emergency medical transport and cribbing. Milton Township CERT conducts 3 basic training courses a year for 7 consecutive Thursdays. Each class is 3 hours long The College of DuPage allows us to use their SSG Miller Homeland Security Education Center to host our classes and train our students. At the end of the course, CERT students engage in a mock disaster drill (complete with actors, fake injuries and other rescue scenarios) where they utilize all the skills they learned to work through the chaos.
