Honor Flight Chicago

www.honorflightchicago.org

Eight times a year, an average of 110 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans in their 70s, 80s, 90s and for some the lower 100s, embark on a very special journey to Washington D.C. to see the memorials that were erected in their honor along with 16.1 million other Americans who served in the 2nd World War and almost 2 million Americans who fought in Korea.

If you haven't heard of this amazing organization, check out their website : www.honorflightchicago.org. This organization, gives World War II and Korean War veterans the recognition and appreciation they deserve! Honor Flight flies the veterans to Washington D.C. (free of charge to the veteran) to see the WWII and Korean War memorials. While there, the vets receive the "VIP" treatment. They're greeted by current and former military members, politicians and others who are just grateful for their service and sacrifice. Washington DC Police provide a police escort through the city for the entire day! They then go to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum for a private tour. The veterans fly out and back the same day. And they have volunteer medical staff on every flight as well as their own personal guardian to assist them throughout the day.. When they arrive back at Midway Airport in Chicago, they receive the welcome home ceremony they never got! If you ever get the chance to attend the Welcome Home ceremony, I urge you to stop by Midway Airport to meet some incredible people and thank veterans for their service and sacrifice!
